We have all been delivered from death if we have come to know God personally. In Romans 5:12 it tells us, “just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all have sinned.” If our sin is not dealt with by the blood of Christ then we are heading towards an eternal death. One that leads us to utter separation from God. If we are believers though we have hope and life because of Christ. Later in Romans it tells us in 5:21, “as sin reigned in death, grace also might reign through righteousness leading to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
God has also delivered our feet from stumbling. Have you ever found yourself literally stumbling but before you fall someone catches you? This is a great illustration of our walks with God. He is there to catch us before we fall. Here is an insightful passage about stumbling. “If anyone walks in the day, he does not stumble, because he sees the light of the world. But if anyone walks in the night, he stumbles because the light is not in him.” John 11:9,10
Christ is the light that shines brightly within us, He is the light of Life. How do we go about walking in the light? We cling to the truth of His Word, we faithfully pray, confess our sins and we seek to love others and God by the power of the Holy Spirit.
What does it look like to walk in darkness? Pursuing the things of the flesh: sexual immorality, anger, hate, bitterness, idolatry, and the list goes on. We are commanded in Ephesians 5:8-10 to walk as children of the light. “It tells us we were once darkness, but now we are the light in the Lord. For the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true.”
Where are you today in your journey? Are you pursuing things of the light or things of the darkness? If you find yourself pursuing things in the darkness, turn towards the light and confess your sins. God will restore you and set you on the path of His wonderful light. Remember this passage. “God is light and in Him there is no darkness at all. If we walk in the light, we have fellowship with one another and the blood of Jesus cleanses us from all sins.” 1 John 1:5,7
